Hamburger Helper visual Recipe

I love using these visual recipes with my students.  My students are totally capable of preparing something like this with a little bit of help.  I really want to do a lot more cooking in my classroom this year.   They all LOVE to cook!  I am always surprised and saddened on how many of my students don't get the opportunity at home to cook.  Here is a basic recipe for hamburger helper.   This will not work for all varieties  and I did not put amounts of each ingredient, as each box was a little different.  Do you cook with your students?  What kinds of thigs are fun and easy to cook in the classroom?  I will give away this recipe card to the first 5 people who comment below.  Be sure to leave your email address!

  1. I have just come across your blog...after stumbling across it from a Pinterest link.
I teach a Life Skills class in a middle school in New Jersey. I am so excited to see your blog and teacher store. I have been doing this for 8 years and have had trouble connecting people in the same type of position.
We cook on a weekly basis and I often use self-created illustrated recipes. But my favorite resource are the Cooking 2 Learn binders. They combine life skills, math skills, and literary skills. I have recently started making Power Point presentations to accompany the recipes (with larger print and real life photographs).
This year we have cooked one-eyed toast, cinnamon rolls, s'mores, mac and cheese, and raspberry twists. We will be making "mummy" dogs this week to get into the Halloween spirit.

  2. Just found your blog off pinterest. You have great stuff. I teach a middle school life skills class also and love your ideas. This is my first year so I need all the help I can get. One thing my students have loved cooking were nachos and mac and cheese. I will be a frequent visitor here, that's for sure!

  4. Mine love to cook too! I only have a hot pad and an electric skillet to use for cooking which is such a bummer! My kids are all over 18 and I am surprised how many of them have never even cooked a pancake when they come to me.
